{"id":187,"date":"2010-11-07T04:41:42","date_gmt":"2010-11-07T04:41:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.space-data.org\/dev"},"modified":"2015-03-04T13:23:01","modified_gmt":"2015-03-04T18:23:01","slug":"faq","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.space-data.org\/sda\/faq\/","title":{"rendered":"FAQ"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin:0 0 24px 0;\">\n<h4>What data is shared?<\/h4>\n<p>Data sharing is defined by the type of service:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"list\">\n<li>Third-party access to data (Enhanced Services only is strictly controlled and determined by the SDA)<\/li>\n<li>All members must participate in points of contact and conjunction assessment but can choose whether to participate in other services<\/li>\n<li>Participation in a service requires the member to provide associated data<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin:0 0 24px 0;\">\n<h4>What can\/can&#8217;t the data be used for?<\/h4>\n<p>SDC-permitted uses:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"list\">\n<ul class=\"list\">\n<li>Operational support, including safety of flight<\/li>\n<li>EMI\/RFI resolution of actual harmful interference, including at ITU<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Support for insurance underwriting<\/p>\n<ul class=\"list\">\n<li>As legally required by national regulatory authorities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>SDC-prohibited uses:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"list\">\n<li>Any commercial purpose (sales, planning, marketing, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Securing orbital-spectrum rights<\/li>\n<li>Transmittal to third parties (except for safety of flight)<\/li>\n<li>Any other use that is not a permitted use<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These conditions are enforced by the legally binding agreements.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin:0 0 24px 0;\">\n<h4>What are the key system features?<\/h4>\n<ul class=\"list\">\n<li>A diversely hosted system with globally distributed tertiary redundancy for high availability and to encourage global participation<\/li>\n<li>Data protection through use of high-level security systems and protocols<\/li>\n<li>Robust administration and system auditing processes<\/li>\n<li>Validation of contributed data and results to minimize errors<\/li>\n<li>Ease of access for authorized users coupled with robust and strictly administered access procedures<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h4>How will the SDA be funded?<\/h4>\n<p>To date, the founding members (SES, Intelsat and Inmarsat) have supported all startup costs. Future funding will be as agreed by the SDA executive members on a cost-sharing basis. Funding will be at a level to ensure a cash-positive balance though not-for-profit and will anticipate future development.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin:0 0 24px 0;\">\n<h4>What are the next steps?<\/h4>\n<p>The SDC has now achieved initial operating capability (IOC), and we are seeking satellite operators to join as Standard Members.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"list\">\n<li>Members are encouraged to participate in pre-full operational capabilities (FOC) conjunction assessment testing and validation and also participate in other SDA development activities<\/li>\n<li>Members\u2019 fees are not be due until after FOC in the first quarter of 2011<\/li>\n<li>Participation in pre-full operational capability conjunction assessment operations is optional but greatly helps in building a robust system and validating data as soon as possible<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin:0 0 24px 0;\">\n<h4>What is the difference between SOCRATES-GEO and SDA?<\/h4>\n<p>During initial operating capabilities, there is no difference between the SDA\/SDC and Socrates-GEO. After full operating capabilities, which will take place in the first quarter of 2011, the SDA\u2019s data center will offer greater capability including:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"list\">\n<li>RFI mitigation support<\/li>\n<li>Avoidance maneuver planning<\/li>\n<li>On-demand conjunction analysis<\/li>\n<li>Enabled Web services, which allows interaction with the SDC in more ways<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin:0 0 24px 0;\">\n<h4>Who can join the SDA?<\/h4>\n<p>SDA membership is open to all owners and operators responsible for the control and operations of in-orbit satellites. <a href=\"signup.php\">Join today!<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin:0 0 24px 0;\">\n<h4>How do I join?<\/h4>\n<p>To gain the benefits of the Space Data Association, sign up <a href=\"signup.php\">online<\/a> or email us at<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"mailto:membership@space-data.org\">membership@space-data.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What data is shared?
